Guiding Thought

Love is unconditional. I choose to be unconditionally devoted to the love which is unconditionally devoted to me. I embrace life in love as my True nature. Connected with All in Love, I stand boldly in my heart-center, unwavering in my dedication to Unity of Life in Love.

Why am I here? Why am I doing this? I know why. But sometimes the forest gets lost for the trees: the mundane exercises of life become the point of focus and I can lose the bigger picture. Especially when the bigger picture is something incremental over a long period of time and life’s calisthenics keep me hustling.

The big picture is the slow-growth to enlightenment (or transcendence). The plodding process of becoming light, knowing Oneness, being of conscious service to All, in All, for All. That’s a mighty big picture.

This is my plan (the Journeys). That is my goal (transcendence). Am I crazy? Maybe. I know that not too many people make an actual plan to become enlightened, however, there are so many teachings that say not only is it possible, but also that it’s possible now, in this lifetime. So, why not go for it? Other people have done it. This is what Buddha taught; this is what Christ taught.

With Buddha Dharma, there is a path, a way; it is laid out clearly in teachings. There are people who have come before and done it. They figured it out and now other people learn from their examples. Those people have become a model for achieving transcendence. Why don’t more people do it? Why aren’t more people walking around saying, “Enlightenment in this lifetime! That’s what I’m talking about!” That’s a mystery to me. Why aren’t more people trying to figure it out? Sure people are meditating more, becoming healthier, but it seems like it’s about stress-relief, or relaxation, or living longer, not about becoming enlightened. Why not?

Sure, we can do what Buddha did, do what Christ did (on the other hand…who wants to be crucified?), but we are not them—each of us is unique with our own set of distractions, our own lessons, our own learning, and our own gifts. We can do what Christ or Buddha did, but that will only get us so far—we must figure out enlightenment for ourselves, for our own unique set of circumstances. Their lessons were for them—which they used to figure it out. We can follow their paths, but everyone must add their unique seasoning; keep the principles, but adapt them to your understanding, your expression. Find your own path of Love, to Love.

Maybe this sounds crazy. I’m ok with that; of course, I haven’t been challenged too much about it. Who knows, I might buckle under pressure.

What I do know—or at least feel—is there is no reason not to try. There’s no reason I shouldn’t think, “This is the lifetime I do it. This is the lifetime I become enlightened. This is the lifetime I transcend.” Thoughts like this give me a higher purpose. I am happy when I am working to fulfill my goals of enlightenment. I am happy to have enlightenment as the context for my life; somehow things just make more sense. I feel good putting my time, energy, and thoughts into this higher purpose. Do I think other people would benefit having a higher purpose like this? Absolutely. Do I think I have the answers? Maybe I have some; I do not have others. However, I am happy to share anything that might help someone else.

Why all this? For the simple reason that, “Love is unconditional. I choose to be unconditionally devoted to the love which is unconditionally devoted to me.” This is my remembering. This is my purpose, my path, my devotion. I am in it. All in. Unconditionally in it.

“I embrace life in love as my True nature. Connected with All in Love, I stand boldly in my heart-center, unwavering in my dedication to Unity of Life in Love.” I am going boldly forward (yes, yes, I do happen to be a Star Trek fan), and I am dedicating everything to my purpose and my plan. This is not for the weak-hearted…this is no-holds barred. We have what it takes; let’s do it! Enlightenment in this lifetime! That’s what I’m talking about!
