You’ve made it to Round 4, congratulations!
We are back to using “I” as the subject of the Guiding Thoughts. If you are new to the Journeys, please see this page for information about how the rounds change.
I clear my mind of all past notions of what I think healing is. I erase all memories and stories from my thoughts, leaving only a clean slate. I turn my attention to my Inner Divine Mind and I ask, “What is healing”? I wait and listen in silence; I take my attention deeper into the vastness of Divine Mind and ask again, “What is healing?”, “What is wholeness?”, and “What is holy?” I wait and I listen. Feeling stillness, I simply pause in the quiet and await my answer.
In the English language, many times healing is called, “getting better”, as in “She had the flu really badly, but she’s getting better”. Or, “I was sick, but I’m better now”. Can we then say that any kind of “getting better” is healing?
“The state of my finances is getting better.”
“I’m getting better at not always being late to an appointment.”
“I’m getting better at being more patient with people.”
“I’m getting better at not worrying so much.”
“My diet is getting better.”
“I’m living life, and learning to ‘do that’ better.”
In my (humble) opinion, any kind of “getting better” is about healing. “Improvement” is another way to look at “healing”. All these statements are intrinsically about healing: healing a mindset toward more stable finances, healing a predisposition to being late, healing impatience and worry, improving the diet, improving life.
The thing is, healing denotes an ongoing process, in a similar way that “journey” connotes movement, but not a destination. Which requires me to ask, “At what point is one healed”? People can heal from an ailment, people can heal a broken bone, and these things are end points. When you’ve recovered, you are healed.
Healing is the process of being healed. What is the ultimate endpoint? Oneness. Love. Union with God. All the healings we experience (broken bones, ailments, itchy rash) are stops along the way of the Journey home.
For Journey of Healing, the intention and declaration written at the beginning, point you in the direction of your healing process. Since each Journey is really aimed at you “getting better”, all Journeys can be incorporated into any healing process. Though each person may have their own goal, like a particular healing from an ailment, the Journeys operate in the abstract, focusing on concepts such as “greater harmony”, Oneness, Love, etc. The Journeys, thus, are set up to heal–to improve– your mind/body/emotions/experience on all levels, in the various aspects of the Journeys.
My mind tends most often toward the abstract, toward enjoying “the Journey”. I am very comfortable with a process, without having a distinct end-point. You may find that frustrating, especially if you like closure, conclusions, reconciliations, and end-points, especially if you have an ailment that you want to heal.
Often, for me, the intention for each Journey is about simply “getting better” and being aware and understanding as best I can every day how I am “getting better”; the end-point is simply the end of the Journey when I reflect and ask, “What have I learned? How am I better?” Then, the next Journey starts, and I keep going, getting better, and continuing on.
