Beauty is a frame of mind, a way of looking at the world, not a quality of things or people.
Lesson 28 in A Course in Miracles is, “Above all else, I want to see things differently”. The lesson does not tell you how you “should” want to see things, other than differently. But now, after 40 days contemplating Beauty, at least one of the ways that I now want to see things is beautifully.
If I want to see the beauty of things, the beauty of people, or the beauty of myself, then it is I who must see them this way. It is not up to those people or things to impart beauty unto me, it is up to me to bring a mindset of beauty to them.
When I do that, there is no limit to beauty. Or, rather, the only limit is in my own mind.
“When you have seen one thing differently, you will see all things differently”. I have now begun to see all things in the light of beauty. I now approach everything wondering about its beauty, wondering about its potential for being more than what I might (otherwise) think.
I am “asking what it is, rather than telling it what it is”. Now I understand the point of asking so many questions on Journey of Beauty. Through the questions, my interpretation of Beauty was not bound to any preconceived notions of what I thought beauty was, and I did not limit what beauty could be.
The questioning opened my definition of Beauty, to look for further applications and interpretations. I was (and am) able to apply each new opening to other things, other situations, opening my mind further.
“Hidden under all your ideas about it is its real purpose, the purpose it shares with all the universe… and you are making a commitment to each of them to let [its] purpose be revealed to you instead of placing your own judgment upon [it]”.
