The Circle of Love -Fulfillment (1.6.33)

Guiding Thought

What is fulfillment but knowing my Self as an expression of Divine Love? My Self wills to create! My Self wills to share! My Self wills to extend itself! My fulfillment is creation; my joy is sharing; my peace is extension.

Sharing

My Self is what God, the Infinite Creator, created. My Self, the I of “I am”, is what God created, as God created.

God is Divine Love; God is Divine Light. Every point is this love, every point of light is this light. Everywhere is filled with Divine Love and Light. Everywhere is filled full with this love and light. How could that not be the case?

The will of the creator is to create. My Self is the Self of God. My will extends the will of the creator, to create.

The will of the creator is to extend the Divine Love and Light that It is, that I am.

I fulfill God’s will when I extend Divine Love and Light, when I create as God wills, with my will, with Love and Light.

This is the circle of Love. This is the circle of Light.

Divine Love and Light gives Itself to itself, and asks that itself give back to Itself. It’s really very simple.

Give Love.
You are that Love.
God is that Love.
You give the Love you are, which is also the Love God is, to God and to your Self, through yourself, which is giving that Love to All.

Got it?

The only reason that you need to “invite, welcome, and receive the effects of Divine Love” is because you have forgotten that you are Divine Love.

Divine Love does not need to invite, welcome, or receive itself, now does it? How silly would that be? Divine Love remembers itself as One, always.

There are mechanisms place that create this gap between what You know and whether or not your mind/brain (memory) has access to it. One of these mechanisms is your analytic brain. This brain wants reasons, logic, and understanding. It wants proof. Evidence.

Truth does not require proof of itself. Divine Love does not require proof of itself. But what evidence can we show the analytic brain of Truth or of Divine Love?

This is why this Guiding thought uses these specific words, “”invite, welcome, and receive the effects of Divine Love”. These words engage the analytic brain and let it know, “hey! this is what is happening! I’m setting in motion a process to give you evidence of Divine Love! Be on the lookout!”

If you just try to insist to the analytic mind that Divine Mind exists, it will set its heels, cross its arms, and balk at every turn, insisting that there is nothing you can show it as proof. This sets up a dynamic in which the analytic brain does what it does–seek proof and deny anything that does not offer any.

But putting the analytic brain on notice to start looking out for the effects of Divine Mind…this sets up a completely different dynamic. This does not ask the analytic mind to discern whether or not Divine Mind exists; instead you enter the dynamic with the presumption that Divine Love does in fact exist. That “question” is removed completely from the equation. When you simply let analytic mind know that “this is happening, and this is what I want you to look for”, you enlist the aid of the analytic mind, getting its cooperation.

All of the sudden, it’s working on behalf of the task that you have given it, and it begins to fulfill your wishes. It looks for those experiences of  Divine Mind and these effects. Divine Presence is always confirming itself in my life, activities, and affairs. This exercise just gets the left-brain on board.

We are on the final stretch, the last 10 days! Pat yourself on the back–you are doing great. I know sometimes it does not feel like anything is “happening”–at least I feel that way, sometimes. But I can assure you, that if you have been taking a few minutes each day to read and think about the Guiding Thoughts, you are changing; your perceptions and perspectives are broadening, and you are allowing more love and light into your mind and your heart–and I hope you have seen that love and light encourage bold action, especially in a currently dark world.

In “What is Enlightenment?”,  Steven Norquist says this:

Enlightenment is the feeling/knowing that no one exists including you and that everything that happens does so spontaneously and perfectly. Enlightenment is the feeling/knowing that what exists is Universe/Consciousness, they are the same, U=C. Existence is itself consciousness and that is why there is something rather than nothing. This is the real state of things and because it is so natural, so simple and so obvious, we miss it daily.

This has my head spinning a bit today (I just found this essay). So much of modern, western personal and social identity comes out of Descartes’, “I think therefore I am”…especially the I am. Yet, Norquist is saying that “you” do not exist, “no one exists including you”. Today’s Guiding Thought relies heavily on the “I am”, which now is being questioned through this quote.

There is no existence, as we have defined it for centuries. Think about how that totally obliterates identity politics.

There is, however, happening, according to Norquist: “everything that happens does so spontaneously and perfectly”.

No existence. Only happening.

But then Norquist goes on to say, “Enlightenment is the feeling/knowing that what exists is Universe/Consciousness, they are the same, U=C”.

Follow me here… if there is no existence, how can he then say “that what exists” is anything? Moreover, if there is no existence, who or what is doing the feeling/knowing about what “exists”?

This, I’m sure, is merely a reflection of the problem with words trying to express concepts bigger than our linear-language can accommodate.

The bottom line (I believe) for Norquist is that only consciousness exists: “Existence is itself consciousness”.

Consciousness is the only thing that exists. Existence is consciousness; consciousness is existence. Existence is the fulfillment of consciousness; consciousness fulfills existence. “You” are this consciousness–the existence of everything. “You” as an identity do not exist. You think therefore you are? No. You just are.

And because what you are is the existence of everything, it is so natural, so simple and so obvious.  You are. The very essence of existence.

I Want Control!: Journey of Peace 2017– Day 27

Sharing

When I was a child, I had moments of knowing I was connected to something greater than myself. Today, with my adult brain, I would describe these moments as feelings of Oneness or Unity or Whole Love. At the time though, I was not thinking of it in quite that way—I was a kid; all I knew is it felt right, it felt like my body was in a current of flow that went on forever. I remember thinking, “I want to be light; I want my body to transform into light.” I think children in general have greater access to feeling “in the flow” than adults: they have not built up the emotional and mental barriers that get in the way of this flow.

One such moment for me was when I decided to try to meditate. I was probably 13 or 14, and had never been formally introduced to meditation or eastern philosophies. My sister was my biggest influence; she was reading the Seth books by Jane Roberts, the “Tao Te Ching” by Lao Tzu, and other such books and I, as the little sister, followed and wanted to know what these things were about. I read about Tao and flow, and consciousness and “reality”. There was something there I was learning, that was shifting something in me.

Somewhere, I don’t even really know where, I came across a description of meditation—upside down. It seemed as though the meditation posture was intended to be uncomfortable and since I come from a Catholic background, where pain is incorporated into the atonement of sins, it just made sense to me that meditation would be the same way. I had already had feelings—moments—of feeling the flow, and thought meditation would help me figure out how to do it more often, so I tried it. My head on a pillow, up against a wall in my bedroom, I did a headstand.  I had not read any “instructions”, any pointers, or any warnings of “don’t try this at home.” In other words: I did not know what I was doing! But I knew what I wanted to achieve. I closed my eyes and sat (stood?) there… And sat there… And sat there… I may have passed out. I may have fallen asleep. I don’t know…but I knew when I “woke up” (returned to consciousness; re-entered my body?) that I had succeeded! I was so calm, peaceful, and happy. My body hurt like heck, but that to me was just a symbol of the success—I achieved surpassing the bodily aches and was totally absorbed in the flow of the mind—and I had done it intentionally.

I have been practicing and learning to cultivate that feeling of lightness ever since. The effects are the overwhelming feelings of being in a flow, of clarity, of love, peace, wholeness, completion, trust, and happiness (not always all at the same time). In a broader sense, the feeling is connected to a very solid, practical, purposeful goal, applicable to life. I noticed that when practiced and pursued consciously, the effects slowly expanded, making life’s activities, relationships, and choices clearer, more peaceful, more gentle.

When there is intention and flow to the practice, life-activities have a “flow” to them.

I now know that it is the continual cultivation and intention that allows those moments into experience, because transcendence does not just arrive, it must pursued, invited, and welcomed. We are all capable of transcendence.

May those who sorrow, be compassionate;

May those who are lost, light a path for another;

May those who question or doubt, give guidance;

May those who worry, lift the burden of another;

May those who hide, see their own light in the eyes of a stranger;

May we all give peace, no matter what.

This happened a couple of days ago, but when I saw this, I thought… “Yes! Yes, this is exactly right”.

Lin-Manuel Miranda, from Hamilton, was a guest on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, this past Tuesday.Image result for lin-manuel miranda alexander hamilton

Part of the conversation was about Miranda’s new book Gmorning, Gnight, compiled of tweets that he had written.

Admittedly, I was at first uninterested. But just watch the last two minutes. Pay close attention to what Colbert asks after Miranda has read his piece, and what Miranda says in response to that…and then what Colbert says. Then read the Guiding Thought again…

Umbrella Motivation -Fulfillment (1.6.28)

Choosing is Easy, When You’re not Stuck in a Pattern: Journey of Peace 2017

What motivates you to follow a spiritual path–to meditate, to do yoga, to pray, to read inspired writings? Why do you do it?

This is my new favorite question. I want to hear how people answer this. It’s so interesting, and everyone is different.

Here are two responses I have received recently:

  1. “I have had experiences of and with the divine. It’s mostly been with people around the time of death, a confirmation that there is something bigger than me, bigger than us, and bigger than this life that we live. These experiences from the past confirm the Divine to me, and motivate me to seek more experiences with the Divine.”
  2. “I can’t imagine any other way of being. I sort of fought it for years, not embracing that ‘spiritual’ side of myself. But now, I’ve given in to it. I seek the Divine to live with the Divine, because anything else no longer makes sense to me”.

How would you respond?

In a way, this question is an umbrella question for all these Journeys, much like the Why at the beginning of each Journey, but encompassing an overarching Why, looking at the big picture, rather than individualized answers to specific Journeys. Such motivation encompasses everything, bringing perspective to all of your actions, all of your seeking, not just the why for one Journey.

There’s no wrong answer; there is only awareness. My answer has changed over the years. My idea of what “enlightenment” is has changed over the years. My motivation has changed…At no point did I ever feel that what motivated me, or what directed my actions was wrong. In fact, at every point, I felt pretty confident in my reasons for being motivated in the way I was.

This, to me, is how I have moved along the path, and how I have evolved. I have to embrace where I’m at in order to move past that point.

Yeah, sure I can work at being motivated through Peace, and listen for guidance so that all my actions are motivated by Joy, all my intentions are Love, and the direction of my will is simply to share Joy and Love.

But if that does not work for me today, that’s ok. I can tap into my overarching reason of motivation, and evolve myself from where I am. It just takes me to be willing to do it.

The Hum of Harmony Journey of Peace 2017– Day 24

Sharing

I’ve had a very enlightening breakthrough, unlike any other I’ve experienced in 5 years of Journeying. This breakthrough is threefold.

  1. The content of the breakthrough
  2. My awareness of the content
  3. My understanding of how I have been lead to this point

All three of these go together, so here’s the story:

This begins all the way back on Day 1 of this Journey, when I was working out why this Journey is important to me. I wrote, “I must do nothing, and in doing nothing All is well. Everything is fulfilled. This, then, is Why a Journey of Fulfillment: Because All is fulfilled. All is filled full. I must do nothing. I have no goal, no sense for accomplishment, no want, no desire, beyond recognizing what is.”

This has been very difficult to maintain. Try doing nothing. Try taking no action to accomplish anything, taking no action to change a situation, doing nothing because “it’s good for you”. Try not doing anything spontaneously, impulsively, or habitually. Try to have no intention, other than living in the moment and recognizing Truth in that moment.

This is how I’ve been (not) acting. I have removed intention; I’ve removed having a goal; I’ve stopped wanting something, anything. I desire no particular outcome. Just over 3 weeks I’ve been doing this.

I feel the tug to do something. I stop myself from doing it. I feel like “this would be so cool”, and I stop myself from doing it. I think, “OH, but wouldn’t it be nice if >this happened< as a result of me >doing this<” and I don’t do it.

I can’t say it’s been hard, so much as it has taken great vigilance to recognize all the times that I want to do something in order to get something, then stopping myself. This speaks to #2 above: my awareness of  the content. I have had to really stay on top of myself, on top of my impulses, my reasons for wanting to do something, so that I could make an informed decision in the moment. 3 weeks of this, day in, day out.

Then, (this is the being lead part), I was listening to A Course in Miracles, and I heard this (I will distill this for you below…):

Everything the ego tells you that you need will hurt you. For although the ego urges you again and again to get, it leaves you nothing, for what you get it will demand of you. And even from the very hands that grasped it, it will be wrenched and hurled into the dust. For where the ego sees salvation it sees separation, and so you lose whatever you have gotten in its name. Therefore ask not of yourself what you need, for you do not know, and your advice to yourself will hurt you. For what you think you need will merely serve to tighten up your world against the light, and render you unwilling to question the value that this world can really hold for you. (Text is here.)

Often, ACIM is pretty dense, and I can only process bits and pieces of it at a time. Here are the bits and pieces that sunk in, deeply:

Everything the ego tells you that you need will hurt you…Therefore ask not of yourself what you need, for you do not know, and your advice to yourself will hurt you.

This happened maybe 3 days ago. These words have been playing over and over in my head since then.

And then I realized. This is why I must do nothing. Anything I choose will hurt me, because my wants and needs are still dominated by ego. Or, in terms of ACIM, my mind still contains conflict, and while the conflict persists I cannot choose clearly, wholly (Holy), and purely. [FYI, the solution to this, according to ACIM, is to turn decisions over to the Holy Spirit, saying something like (for example): “The Holy Spirit leads me unto Christ, and where else would I go? What need have I but to awake in Him?”]

Then, over the past 24 hours, my impulse to do something shifted. Doing, as I’d been thinking of/experiencing it, meant taking an action, something physical. Over the past 24 hours, I began recognizing mental and emotional habits that were arising in order to get me to feel or think something.

It was not immediate, but after a relatively short time, I realized these thoughts/feelings were very similar to the physical impulses I’d been aware of these past three weeks. They have the same energy signature, so to say.

They were trying to convince me that my feelings were right (righteous), and that I needed to hold a grudge, feel used/abused/confused, feel put upon, angry, betrayed, and isolated. And do you see how those feelings are pretty obviously of the lower self? And yet, there was a part of me trying to convince me that I should claim (as in act upon) those feelings. That if I just let myself feel (and feel self-righteous in those feelings), I will gain, I will get something, I will win.

Thank goodness for my vigilance of the past 3 weeks; I called bullshit, and halted the “action” associated with those feelings.

Then, just today I had another amazing realization. By doing nothing, I am starving my ego. It has no control, it has no power, I am taking away what it feeds upon. I would not have understood this, if I hadn’t just spent 3 weeks denying it food. By diligently halting all actions associated with my lower self (including thoughts/feelings), I have loosened its power in ways that I don’t think I can even understand right now. I can just feel it. My lower self is pissed off, and hungry. Hangry. And it is doing everything it can in a last-ditch effort to try to get me to feed it, to strengthen it.

Thank God for awareness, understanding, and vigilance.

I don’t know where this now will lead. There are 12 days left to this Journey. A lot can happen. I look forward to finding out, and sharing with you!

I’ll leave you with this quote, in gratitude to you, from the same page of ACIM:

Healing in time is needed, for joy cannot establish its eternal reign where sorrow dwells. You dwell not here, but in eternity… Give thanks to every part of you that you have taught how to remember you. Thus does the Son of God give thanks unto his Father for his purity.
