Guiding Thought
What is beauty of mind? What is beauty of heart? What is beauty of soul? What is beauty of emotion? How are these the same? How are they different? Are they enacted, or expressed similarly, or differently? How do you discern the nuances of difference between beauty of mind-heart-soul-emotion? Is there a difference, or does all unite in Beauty, as it does in Love or Oneness?
Reflection / Contemplation
I cannot write about today’s guiding thoughts without attending to the body. Here it is again, this incarnation business.
In the system of the Tao is a concept of the Three Treasures, subtle containers within our bodies. They are located in the belly, the heart, and the mind. Interestingly enough, there are physical practices along with breathing and meditative exercises to sense, develop, and utilize the energies of these treasures. Separate energies – all housed within the body.
I liken today’s thoughts with the Three Treasures, different energies, sensations, and locations within the body. Beauty of heart, mind, soul, emotion all have different energies, but are contained within the body.
It was today that I attended a local pottery sale. Of course, lots of Beauty there, for me at least. I went to the sale as a form of meditation. Therein was an evocation of memory for me. For a few years a pottery studio was a playground of ideas, form and expression for me. Any wonder why it is I am attracted to cups, footings, glazes, and such? What an amazing display of diversity and creativity.
I well remember the fusion of mind, heart, and emotion required of me of in that studio. It began with some image or form in my mind, which I needed to impart on the page before getting my hands into clay and water. It was emotion and passion which further directed this creation, an effort of making something Beautiful (oh…lots of practice and not so aesthetically pleasing pieces…but that is beside the point).
I have, as yet, to meet anyone who takes up a creative endeavor, in service to Beauty, be it fine arts, crafts, writers, scientists, big thinkers, parents, lovers, etc. whose work or life is not infused with imagination and passion. It is rather interesting that my meditation on these concepts today require the body for experience and expression. Incarnation indeed!
