Mystic Rebels –Journey of Beauty 02.10.33

Guiding Thought

Do I know how beautiful I am? Do I have any idea what Beauty created me, what Beauty adorns me, what Beauty permeates and surrounds me? Do I know all Beauty is a gift of Love, leading me to Itself?

Reflection / Contemplation

Today’s guiding thoughts finds me hanging out with the Mystics, the other rebels. Over the millenniums, they have been a thorn in the sides of Theocracies, and religious and doctrinal authorities within religious dominations and church communities. They have often been labeled heretics, tortured, and killed.  And interestingly enough, they sometimes get un-labeled as heretics. The institution somehow catches up to their advanced way of looking at reality. Case in point: Meister Eckhart, a 13th Century Dominican, had the audacity to preach to his congregants in their native language of German instead of Latin. I believe he went through the turnstiles a couple of times, being declared a heretic and then not. At the time of his death, he was out, and then sometime after, he was in…again.
Mystics, from all traditions, are reputed to have a direct line to the Divine. They harbor no doubt in knowing their intrinsic Beauty; they also know the what, why, and how of their connection to the Divine. The journey of the mystic, results in an ever increasing authority of the process of getting to and staying Big. This represents quite a challenge to those systems who want to maintain their roles as mediators and definers of what constitutes that link.
It is a fine balance, this human/divine component of our existence. If we are Sovereign holders of Divine Light, then we are not solely the lowly scum and sinners that some traditions state to keep us trapped into staying small. I wrestle with this tension and the claiming of my I AMNESS which is an anathema to some communities.
The big players in evolutionary consciousness state that we are in the midst of an evolutionary leap, not unlike what occurred during the Renaissance. This time it is a shift (an expansion) in dimensions. Pretty big stuff if you ask me. If we are to make this leap, then there are some assumptions about who we are and how we behave which require a serious look and replacement.
Knowing my Beauty, knowing what created me…is one thing…owning it is altogether very different. I can, at least, thank the mystics for taking me to a place of owning. I guess I am a rebel, too, in service to Big Love.

  1. I really appreciate this post because mysticism is the path I walk to stay in tune with the divine. It started many years ago when I first read Meister Eckhart. It continues today as I study Aldous Huxley’s The Perennial Philosophy which has brought me to the writings of mystics across many cultures. And the teachings coming from the Center for Action and Contemplation guide me daily. Apparently, we “rebels” have always been present among the traditionalists.

    • I appreciate having access to contemporary mystics, such as Richard Rohr. He has a strong and steady presence in our house. Thanks for the reminder.
