Lita
My entry with today’s guiding thoughts has to do with “gratitude”. The curious worker bee in my head is always seeking out ways and techniques to get to that place of Peace and Harmony. It is like finding the right music station. I am not sure I know what I want to listen to, but I sure know it when I hear it. It is as simple as that.
Gratitude and appreciation practices are gaining a fair amount of press in a variety of circles today, especially in the Big Mind circles (do check out HeartMath, the Global Coherency Project, Gregg Braden, Tom Kenyon, etc.), not only for the peace it creates in the body/mind arena, but its central role in evolutionary consciousness.
For the last several years I have been a big proponent of heart/brain coherency practices (which draw gratitude and appreciation into the heart accompanied by breath), not only for the simplicity of the technique, but also for how quickly shifts take place in the body, heart, and mind. This practice is also central to an upcoming sound healing workshop I will be attending next month. I “get opportunity” to practice what I preach.
Right now it’s all about the body for me, a mix of awareness, breath, and feeling. There are, of course observable amplifications of my senses, both internal and external, but what is more interesting to observe in myself, is that when I am faithful to the practice, I am less reactive to people and situations which normally take me to barking, judgment, and impatience. My internal peace and harmony extends outward; I am anchored in the Great Knowing of myself as Peace.
Day 12 Peace – Mary
If this Guiding Thought is my Divine Directive for this day, well, I’m so very filled with gratitude. I closed a banking account today that has been associated with my personal business for more than 20 years. I had read recently that 50% of small businesses don’t survive five years. My business, while VERY small, was financially profitable for over 20 years. But when I assess the value to me, and to others, the intangible “profit” is immeasurable. I’ve been a massage practitioner. I worked with a local hospital’s hospice patients, schlepped a massage chair to countless hours of massage in corporate offices and practiced table massage in my home treatment room. To be truly effective, a massage session MUST begin from a space of harmony. That harmony gets strengthened, the Inner Peace deepens, and the sense of well-being is shared throughout the session. The client takes that Inner Peace with them (as do I), and shares it in the life’s activity surrounding them/us. And the ripple spreads. Who can say how far-reaching are the ultimate impacts? I only know it’s been an amazing blessing to have had this particular career, to have learned through touch about harmony and Inner Peace. I will continue to carry and spread this harmony through the rest of my life, in everything I do.

“Together, when we run, we can make this world a beautiful world,” Eliud Kipchoge
This quote by Kipchoge struck me curiously. What does a runner know of or care for a beautiful world? How can running make a beautiful world?
But then I thought about what I know about running: that some runners achieve a meditative state while running, that running produces endorphins, that there is peace and tranquility in the rhythm and stride, that running reduces stress…
Then I thought about running in relation to the Guiding Thought. I can imagine a state for runners in which they know themselves as peace, feeling the breath, feeling the body, in harmony with the stride, and then being able to expand that feeling of their own body, their own life to feeling harmonious with, One with, All of Life.
Kipchoge is an endurance runner, so I can imagine feeling so strong and capable after running for two hours–feeling restored and strengthened, especially if that meditative state is achieved.
I came to understand Kipchoge’s quote as saying something very similar to the Guiding Thought: We are all alone (running is a solitary endeavor), but we can all achieve something beautiful together, if we make the experience one of peace and harmony.
