As Above, So Below.
I feel low-satisfaction with the flowers today. I do think I am feeling a bit of boredom with this, even though just a couple days ago I had said I was not feeling bored. I am invigorated especially when I learn new things. Learning for me associates with creativity, problem-solving (“how do I do this?…), and originality. But repetition…that is not learning. I feel like I have passed the point of learning into repetition, and repetition is boring.
But you can also see that the flowers are not “pretty”. It’s not like I can consistently apply the technique–even though I used the technique, the flowers came out blotchy. This was probably due to boredom and impatience. And it also means I have not mastered the technique.
So the next question is (in the correspondence between the process of painting flowers and creation, and the idea that there are formulas that work): where do I go from here? Do I add something to the technique to renew my learning/interest, like mixing colors? Do I slog on, with the idea that this is a phase of learning? Do I paint something other than flowers? What am I learning about my approach to “mastery”, and to being a masterful creator?
