Since beginning with the brushes, I’ve been fascinated with the brush strokes.

As a kid I used to “play with” calligraphy. I say “play with” because it was more like I drew the character, then filled it in, not using individual brush strokes.

But with the watercolors, I can feel a draw to brush strokes for creating letters. Simple. Elegant. yet difficult to perfect. flat or round brush? the angle of holding the brush. the pressure throughout the stroke. the consistency of the movement.

In keeping with my theme of “creation” and “reproduction” (technique), I did these characters today.
