Journey of the Heart, Day 36- 03.01.36

Guiding Thought:

I listen to my heart and with my heart.

My heart pays attention to others, listening to their inner voice, their unspoken words.

I care, and attend with love to their deeper, silent needs, asking their heart, “how may I strengthen you and raise your energy?”

I surprised myself today with everything new – ink, paper, technique. Mark Nepo, the poet and essayist has a book entitled: Seven Thousand Ways to Listen: Staying Close to What is Sacred.  Perhaps it is that my heart has found a new way to listen.

I wake up in the mornings and have coffee, looking out the front window where there are two large maple trees. In the fall, my imagination got lost in the leaves, seeing muppet-type monsters. Everything changes in nature; each day I would go back and look, wondering, “will I be able to see the same thing again today”? The leaves fell, and with them the muppet monsters. Now it’s winter, and I have bare branches. The image I drew today has greeted me in the branches every morning for a week–the figure is dancing and leaping; the “arms and legs” extend much further in the branches than I could fit in this picture. There is grace, beauty, buoyancy, joy, rejoicing, celebration in the figure…or at least in my imagination of the branches. I listen to the tree. It strengthens and raises my energy.

Reflection

A realization has come to me, from all the varied expressions of Love on this Journey of the Heart. We are all connected, throughout the entire universe, whether it be heart strings, energetic emanations, love, support, or compassion. And while trying to come up with appropriate drawing, painting, creative representations of the guiding thought, I realize that I could draw/paint/create absolutely anything, a rock, a heart, a flower, a planet, and find connections with the guiding thought. Wow. That feels like too much freedom, yet also very freeing.

The geranium blooming in the garage, in the middle of winter is so inspiring, the hope of spring and new life, a creation of God’s love.

This poem by Richard Kirsten- Diaensai, brings it all together:

“Dearly beloved,

In the drifting mists of time,

Nature of humanity,

The very existence of love,

Life, art, and poetry,

Exists and emanates,

From a single flower.”

Amen.

Today I played with a new technique, acrylic paint pouring. It was a bit time consuming, unfamiliar, extremely unpredictable, incredibly messy and unbelievably fun. Sometimes, listening to the inner voice of others is much like this painting experience. But when I take the time to listen with my heart to their inner voice, their deeper silent needs, the unpredictable communication that results, like this painting, is unexpectedly energizing, uplifting and beautiful no matter how you look at it, for both of us.
