Chaos and Quiet –Journey of Courage 02.09.20

Guiding Thought

Be aware, allow, accept What is. Go within to your silent Self which Knows and follow your Inner wisdom to Truth. Practice Divine Balance in thought, word, and action. You are! You are your Self! You Are your Self of Love!

Contemplation / Reflection

Chaos and quiet. Went for a stroll through the local botanical garden on this sunny, spring-like afternoon. The garden is under the flight path of planes leaving the large international airport. They’re loud. Add to that a couple of trucks with loud mufflers and a motorcycle and you have noisy chaos. In only a minute, the vehicles and the plane are all long gone. I’m now standing on the edge of the pond in the Japanese garden section and all is peacefully quiet. I am aware. I allow the noise, what choice do I have?  And now I stand in the inner and outer stillness. I breathe deeply.  I am my Self aware of both chaos and quiet. And I love the balance of it! One of my favorite songs from years past was titled “Delicate Balance”.  A part of the lyrics: “it’s all such a delicate balance, as it turns through the circles of air. To live it is real, to love it is to feel that you’re a part of what everything is.” Delicate balance, divine balance, chaos and quiet…………

Symbolic Reminders of Love –Journey of Courage 02.09.18

Guiding Thought

Allow yourself to connect with your pure Inner Divine Heart of Oneness. Be aware of the expression of the Divine Heart through you, as you. Connect with your heart, and be aware of embodying its pure Love intention for All. Be filled with Joy as I embrace my heart’s Love.

Contemplation / Reflection

Ombre Purple MalaSometimes I wear a mala. Sometimes I wear a bracelet of meditation beads. Sometimes I carry an angel in my pocket. Actually, it’s a small coin-like object with the image of an angel on it. Rosewood With Amber Wrist MalaSometimes I give that angel away, knowing there are more of these symbols at home waiting for me to share them. Angels, or prayer beads, or crystals, or other symbols, they are simply that, symbols, not the “real thing”. Each such symbol stands to remind me of the expression of Divine Heart through me. While I hold these things as precious, in reality they are all basically triggering mechanisms.  They are there to remind me of my connection with my heart. Well, not just my heart, but a higher source of love, light and joy in my life. I am a massage therapist and these types of items help to remind me that, when I share massage with a client, it’s not ME, but “pure love intention” doing the massage. The massage or Reiki touch comes THROUGH me, not FROM me. In the vernacular of the “woo-woo” world, I suppose I might be considered a “channel” of healing touch. Yes, I did the homework, I studied the anatomy, took the exams, qualified for the license.  But, ultimately, I would contend that “it’s not ME”. It’s the joy and Love that any of us can connect with at any time and in any place. It’s magical  — and yet, it has the potential to be so mainstream. A “healer” doesn’t so much do healing, as they open the space for a person to tap into their own healing abilities. And when I’m in touch with that, I cannot help but be joyful and to wish that All of us would tap into that Divine Love and joy. What a blessed world it is, when we practice that connection!

Again and Again –Journey of Courage 02.09.11

Guiding Thought

Life is a process of Self-discovery. Embrace All of Life, for All of Life is who you are! As you embrace Life as your Self, you come to understand Life as yourself. Life embraces you gently and joyfully in return.

Contemplation / Reflection

Several years ago I participated in a number of “personal growth” trainings and workshops. At the time, after years involved in these activities, I sincerely thought, “I got it”. After all, I’d walked on fire, broken a board with one stroke of my hand, spent days in silent retreat, laughed, cried, shouted out any anger within and learned to love the least attractive (to me) person in the group, and to love myself.  What more was there?  I’d done it! Ah, the ego speaks! It wasn’t long before I learned the lesson of this Guiding Thought, Life is a PROCESS of Self-discovery. You don’t get to do it just once and be done with it.  Because the only thing permanent is change, that means I also change, day-to-day or minute-by-minute. And that change is what All of Life is, everything around me, and me. To me, it’s like the idea of “enlightenment”. Maybe I’m not really “there” at all, but it seems to me that even an enlightened state is a process. Does it happen just once and last a life-time? Or does it happen again and again, what it means to be enlightened changing from moment to moment just like everything else in life? Now there’s another question I don’t truly have an answer to. So I continue to embrace Life’s process of Self-discovery, like taking this Journey of Courage. Today, it truly is a joyful journey, Life embracing me joyfully and lovingly. If I continue to rejoice in the ups and downs, the struggles and frustrations, I learn (again and again) to love the Journey itself.

A Very High State of Being–Journey of Courage 02.09.10

Guiding Thought

I am aware, I allow, and I accept What Is. I go within to my silent Self which Knows and follow my Inner Wisdom to Truth. I practice Divine Balance in thought, word and action. I Am! I Am my Self! I Am my self of Love.

Contemplation / Reflection

Allowing What Is, is sometimes a very difficult thing for me. If the only thing permanent is change, why can’t I focus my Self of Love on changing the things I don’t “like”? Then I remind myself that you first have to love, or at least accept, What Is.  Yes, I can accept or allow What Is, sometimes reluctantly.  But if things truly are What Is, I may as well accept or allow. In the moment, What Is may be an illness, lack of financial resources, high levels of homelessness, political circumstances that I’d rather be Is Not.  What Is, is in the now, in this moment. And by the time I write this, it’s already What Was.  Hmmm, gotta love that!! Well, yes, gotta love what is, as well as what is not.  I don’t really understand what I’m experiencing around this Guiding Thought. One wisdom teacher in my life, though, said understanding is the “booby prize” and “confusion is a very high state of being”. With this one, I’m choosing to accept What Is, that I don’t have all the answers and it’s okay to allow myself to live in the open question. As for this response to Day 10, it is what it is!

Exercise in Compassion –Journey of Courage 02.09.06

Guiding Thought

I am responsible! I am able to respond with and through conscious awareness of my inner-centered, silent Knowingness. I practice Knowingness moment by moment. Anchored in my inner-harmony, I have the courage to face my own thoughts and actions.

Contemplation / Reflection

In considering this Guiding Thought, I was taken back to a class I was in awhile ago. We were training to be “peer counselors” to coworkers who might experience some kind of on-the-job trauma.  In one exercise, we were each asked to share a trauma we had faced.  It was a very intimate experience. Everyone was in tears by the end of the exercise. People had suffered the loss a loved one, (child, spouse, parent, sibling, precious friend or family member), experienced a heart-breaking divorce, lost their home, faced life-threatening illness, had a job terminated unexpectedly, been robbed, shot, beaten and more.  It was a first-hand demonstration of the fact that we have no idea what hardships another has faced. But face them, EVERYONE has.  As my father would say, “everyone has their own sack of rocks to carry”.  I am responsible for remembering this.  I am responsible for practicing Knowingness moment by moment.  I am responsible, through that Knowingness, for facing my own thought, my own misguided belief that I know ANYTHING at all about what someone else has been through, what they’re going through, what they might want or need from me.  I am responsible for asking what they might want from me, and for providing it to whatever level I’m able, with love and without judgment.

Unconditional! –Journey of Courage 02.09.03

Guiding Thought

Love is unconditional. I choose to be unconditionally devoted to the love which is unconditionally devoted to me. I embrace life in love as my True nature. Connected with All in Love, I stand boldly in my heart-center, unwavering in my dedication to Unity of Life in Love.

Contemplation / Reflection

Ah, LOVE, such a charged word!  It’s defined as “an intense feeling of deep affection”.  To my mind and experience, this definition is sadly lacking.  I “love” my cat.  I “love” my son, I “love” my husband. I “love” chocolate.  Do I mean the same thing for each of these?  Of course not! I was thinking about those I find the most challenging to “love”. The boss who MUST have some statistics immediately, drop whatever else you’re doing and stay late if necessary, and then doesn’t look at the document for three days. There’s the needy person who essentially demands and expects a high level of assistance and support physically, financially and emotionally and then fails to show any sign of appreciation. There’s the one who promises participation in a project and then, reliably, always has a “good” excuse not to help with the heavy lifting.  From a place of Unconditional love, I find myself forced to consider these challenging people and circumstances to be my very best teachers, my gurus. I sometimes have to tell myself it’s not necessary to “like” them, I just have to love them.  And once again, I’m looking at my own filters for what it means to “like”.  Didn’t I just have this conversation with myself on Day 1? And here it is again!  If others trigger my “like/don’t like” buttons, they’re MY buttons.  From a place of unconditional love, I have to have the courage to admit these people and situations are a perfect reflection of ME. When I find myself angry or frustrated or disappointed, I can remind myself to ask “what needs loving now?” If I look deeply enough, the answer is always “I DO”! I have to love my deepest darkest self, without reservation, “unconditionally”, if you will,  if I hope to dwell in a state of unconditional love.  How can I love others if I can’t first love myself?. In order to truly, courageously “stand boldly in my heart-center, unwavering in my dedication to Unity of Life in Love”, I MUST relinquish conditions. That’s what “unconditional” means.  And they’re always MY conditions.  I can’t think that I’ll love you if/when you behave in a manner that meets my expectations and conditions – that’s NOT unconditional.  I’m a much more happy, peace-full person when I let go of MY disappointments, conditions and judgments and let others just BE, in their own perfect divinity. It’s easy to put on paper, not quite so easy to put into action.  But, oh, my life is so much more divinely blessed when I do!

“Too” –Journey of Courage 02.09.02

Guiding Thought

When I attune my mind to the Oneness that is All of Life, I understand my place in Wholeness. I am the very Presence of Life and this Presence of Life is me. I am blessed through this understanding. In return I bless all I encounter.

Contemplation / Reflection

When I attempt to attune my mind to the Oneness that is all life, I hear my outer voice saying I am too – too tired, too selfish, too separate, too individual, too self-centered, too lazy, too insignificant, too unpracticed, too undisciplined.  When I momentarily glimpse this attunement, I am not too much of anything.  I am whole, how can that be TOO anything.  When I have the courage to be not too, I can see that you, too, are whole!  I imagine you, anyone, has their own list of TOO. If I can see past my judgments of myself, if I have the courage to do that, I’m perhaps less likely to be judging you. May we all be blessed with the vision to see our wholeness, our oneness, and therefore the wholeness and oneness of each other.  NAMASTE.
