Journey of the Heart, Day 35- 03.01.35

Guiding Thought:

I bring my awareness to my heart and resonate with its love.

Naturally and easily my heart-love radiates through me.

Love is present now—rippling in to the future, releasing the past.

Our beloved apple tree received quite a haircut recently. You can see all of the cut branches at the base of the tree – big release of the past, or should I say huge? And here a surprise in the second picture, a close-up of a new bud, “rippling into the future”. I am caught off guard, how it was my camera caught the light surrounding that bud, love radiating.

Reflection

Love is the most powerful energy in the universe. It crosses time and space, and reaches to the ends of the cosmos. It was love that created our world, and it always abides in my heart.

Mary

It’s been raining here for days. It’s the Seattle area in February. Somewhere the sun is shining. If it were here, even for a few moments, there would likely be a rainbow. The sight of a rainbow today would resonate with my heart love and radiate through me. And so I bring my awareness to one of my favorite songs “Somewhere Over the Rainbow”….sigh

Journey of the Heart, Day 34- 03.01.34

Guiding Thought:

Oh, my beautiful blissful heart!

How can I deepen and expand my relationship with you?

How can I give your love, your wisdom, your compassion more openly and freely?

How can I know you, my heart of love, as myself?

In the midst of interminable rain and gray skies, I give homage to the apple tree which lives outside of my studio.  I love to sit underneath its branches in the springtime, especially as the blossoms burst forth. Not only is it a home to roots, branches, leaves, blossoms, and fruit, this apple tree offers a perch to many a variety of birds. This tree, welcomes all of the elements and gives back so freely and deeply.

Reflection

For some cosmic reason, when I look at this painting, by Richard Kirsten Daiensai (Seattle artist), I see myself, Not my little self. I see my happy self, my compassionate self, in love with all.

Mary

I’ve been so busy “doing” art for this journey that I feel, today,
like I’ve missed something.
While focusing on drawing, sketching, painting,
and experimenting with technique,
I’ve neglected a form of art that I’m fairly comfortable with, and so:

On this Journey of the Heart
Even words can be art,
If you take some time
To help the words rhyme.

I’ve been playing with pencils and paints
As if they were the new saints
Of my creativity.

But as we’re near the Journey’s end
I want to bring out my old trusted friends
To help in expressing my heart.

Love, wisdom, compassion,
These features are not in high fashion
In much of our culture right now.

And sometimes words are the best
In looking for ways to express
These wonderful character traits.

So I stashed the paints for today
To take a moment to say,
I know my heart of love as myself.
And my heart says … I love you.

Journey of the Heart, Day 33- 03.01.33

Guiding Thought:

Following the guidance of my heart, I experience life anew!

As I express love, I experience love everywhere.

I find new ways to love.

I recognize new depths and nuances of love.

I am patient. I am kind. I am wise.

I respond to life with love, as love.

Here I am big and bold today, on the edge of the Universe and my willingness to leap with layers upon layers of ink and water, dabbing with a paper towel, adding salt, more color, more dabbing, etc.  I am wondering if my heart is holding the Universe or the Heart of the Universe is holding me. I can just touch and feel the concept of a great and patient Universe taking its time forming galaxies, stars, planets…me. Big Love indeed!

Om is said to be the sound of creation, the sound of the universe, the original sound.

If so, then it is a sound of connection, of unity, of creativity, of Love, of Everything out of Oneness.

Be with Om, Be Om, Be All.

Today is gray, wet and rainy outside. Dripping wet kind of day, no sunshine, puddles of water on the gray concrete. The kind of day you might want to curl up and hide away, sleep, and dream of sunny places.

I challenge myself to be patient today, waiting for the daffodils to open up in bright yellows. Soon, but not yet. The tulips are not even up yet.

So, to experience life anew today, to be patient with the day, I must be kind to myself. We must create our own sunshine today. It is a perfect day to practice patience and kindness.

And so flowers bring hope, for sunshine and brighter days. I am content. The gray day is perfect as it is. It is a required gestation so that tulips can open their wings at the appropriate time.  It is a perfect day.

Mary

I find myself struggling today as I consider responding to life with love. The US State of the Union address was presented last night. There were several heart-touching stories of love, courage, commitment and kindness. There were also acts of hostility, disrespect and divisiveness. These public struggles reflect the inner battles each of us experiences. How can I move my own inner awareness out of this struggling and into a response to life with love? It seems like a good day to focus on amplifying the loving side of the equation, and so I’m practicing kindness and patience as I prepare several messages of love to be mailed across the continent and beyond. Perhaps it’s enough to tip the balance.

Journey of the Heart, Day 32- 03.01.32

Guiding Thought:

Today I decide to give my heart reign.

Trusting in love, assured with its gentle comfort, I invite my heart to lead me with joy and peace to joy and peace.

I surrender my mind and will to my heart’s love.

These are among my favorite pieces of pottery in my collection, well today anyway. I move ever between form and function, as well as content with these containers. It is all about fluidity, much like the fluidity of my heart as it dances between peace and joy.

A blue heart crying petals of peace.

I am learning how the heart holds paradox.

Even in pain or discomfort, feeling like my heart is exploding, or imploding, or being fractured, there is total joy and peace, and surrender to the opening.

Sometimes “giving my heart reign” means allowing it to break; trusting in love, knowing that this is not just leading to joy and peace; this is joy and peace.

Mary

One of the easiest ways I find to surrender to my heart’s love is by listening to music. On many of the days when we are playing heARTfully, there is music playing in the background. Most of the time that music, like the art being created, is non-verbal. The right music selection can easily still the mind and take one to deep internal spaces where daily/worldly concerns simply do not exist. In this space creativity is free to blossom from the heart.

Journey of the Heart, Day 31- 03.01.31

The fourth round returns to using “I”, the same as the first round. But I guarantee, you won’t experience “I” the same way as you did in the first round, after going through rounds 2 and 3!

Guiding Thought:

My Heart knows how to love.

Everything is energy.

The most potent energy is love.

As I learn love, I invite the most powerful energy to express through me, to live as me, to be me!

My heart is Love’s abode.

My heart teaches only love.

I am a willing and joyful student!

I’ve learned to let the Journey Lead.

Rarely is the Journey actually about what I think it’s about. Rarely does the Journey not lead me on unexpected paths providing insight, uncoverings, discoverings, new thoughts, new depths, new aspects…

Setting the intention simply reveals my (little) mind’s limitations, it’s current level of awareness and understanding. My heart, my (Higher) Mind, know what I really want, what I really intend: my deepest reality, my deepest Truth, my deepest longing for my Self, which becomes visible when I allow the Journey to unfold in Truth.

My Heart knows how to PAINT 🙂

Bent HaloSteve

I have felt very much a student on this Journey of Love. How many ways can love be expressed?  Some days inspired, some days not. Can I learn from my heart even when I don’t feel it, on those days when “I’ve got nothing.”  The commitment to this journey has encouraged me to dig a little deeper to find a way to love/ gratitude when it is not already there. Oh yeah, it IS already there, I just need to open to it in my heart.

My heart is a willing and joyful teacher. I am a willing and sometimes joyful student. The process of creating art has been an opening experience for me. I am astounded at the different ways each of our journeyers have expressed themselves in response to the same guiding thoughts. What an adventure!

Mary

I am a willing and joyful student. Today, inspired by Susan Billmaier, I attempted a new technique. This image was done using acrylic paints and ball chains. Obviously mastering the technique will require practice, but it was a fun first try. One thing I’m learning throughout this Journey so far is that PRACTICE is intended to be a way of life. Mastery in any area isn’t likely to come from simply trying. It will come from doing it over, and over and over, and over and over and……

Journey of the Heart, Day 30- 03.01.30

Guiding Thought:

Our heart-love establishes our inner-peace.

Solidly grounded in our own inner-peace, we approach all of life with love, compassion, and wisdom.

We live as our Self, shining with the beauty of the Love we are!

Here in the Seattle area we had rain for 28 days in January. On this magical 02-02-2020 the sun came out! We took a nice, long walk, and appreciated the bright, and unfamiliar shining orb in the sky. I drew this sunshine while sitting peacefully listening to John Denver’s “Sunshine on My Shoulders”. Out in our yard, the daffodils, which quietly lapped up all that January rain, are now enjoying this sunshine day along with us.

Journey of the Heart, Day 29- 03.01.29

Guiding Thought:

Gratitude strikes our hearts like a bell, resounding love through our being.

Gratitude opens our hearts to Love’s purity, our very own essence!

We experience such deep gratitude for our hearts, our essence, our ALL of Life!

I have been listening to one of my favorite sound healers (Tom Kenyon) on the nature of our true sound. We have our true sound as do our organs and cells. Even atoms and neutrinos sing.

The symbol that “we” (Western Humans) use for the heart is an energetic pattern which reminds us that energy flows from within, outward (in never-ending resonance), returning to itself to repeat the process. It’s the constant in-breath-out-breath of our energy with the Energy of Life. It’s happening all the time, everywhere.

Bent HaloSteve

Gratitude. I’m having a tough time coming up with an appropriate drawing or painting. I’m trying to drum up some inspiration. It’s not that I don’t have gratitude, it’s just that I don’t know what or how to express it today. So I started rummaging through photos, looking for inspiration. There is so much to be grateful for. A picture of Mary, with no hair, after being diagnosed with breast cancer. An aching picture of her hugging a tree, with no hair, but grateful to be alive. Pictures after her recovery, of her sporting purple hair, and playing in the pool. These pictures evoke my deep gratitude that Mary is here in my life, having survived breast cancer in 2016. I lost my vision in one eye in 2016 due to a detached retina that multiple surgeries did not correct. We are so grateful to be here today, how could we not be dancing?

Life is complex, pictures can evoke many emotional reactions, not just a one to one, one picture to one feeling. Life is a collage of feelings and experiences, so are these pictures a collage of gratitudes for All of life.

Yesterday our community held its annual “Empty Bowls” fundraiser in support of two local food banks. Many restaurants and a school system culinary arts class donated a variety of soups, bread and cookies. Pottery artisans donated hundreds of handcrafted bowls. A large number of volunteers were deployed to set up, collect donations, serve and clean up for the event. Hundreds of neighbors came to make a donation, select one of the beautifully made bowls, eat a serving of delicious soup and connect with friends and neighbors. We all have a great deal of gratitude from the heart that we live in a community that can organize and support such an event to share the bounty with those who are currently less fortunate. My art from the heart today is an image of the bowl I brought home. The bowl may be empty, but my heart is filled to overflowing. Empty Bowls events occur across the nation. Why not see if there’s one for you to support in your community. If not, perhaps you’ll consider organizing one yourself.
