What does this have to do with– Worth (1.3.7)

Guiding Thought

I claim who I am, the essence of my Self, established in and by Love. My Self shines with the strength, beauty and power of its essence, Love. As I open to my Self, accept my Self, and Love my Self, the Life of Unity infuses all my activity and transforms my consciousness. Life as my Self renews my Joy and restores my trust in Life itself.

Reflection

“Change is the only constant”. Yet so many people resist change…or at least that seems to be the case.

Why?

One would think that if change is the only constant, then it is completely natural. And if it is completely natural, doing it should be easy…and natural.

So, why do so many people seem to have a problem with change? Here are some ideas:

  • Change is imposed from outside, or not chosen
  • Transition periods are associated with adapting to the change are difficult
  • The new/different situation will be “worse”

Even so-called positive change people seem to have a rough time with, mainly associated with the second point above.

If people have a conscious or sub-conscious aversion to change, I wonder how resistant people are to transformation?

And if people are resistant to transformation, then is there a resistance to today’s Guiding Thought, “the Life of Unity infuses all my activity and transforms my consciousness”.

I feel like this awareness is a valuable insight. Although I do not feel resistant to change, if there is a part of my mind that is–especially one that is subconscious–then it is working against what I am trying to accomplish with these Journeys. Transformation is the whole point of the Journeys.

I just remembered that I wrote about this very thing at the very end of the last Journey. That feels significant. I must be working on this in my inner mind, my subconscious, my inner self.

These Journeys instigate change. The whole point is to teach myself to think in ways that are more loving, kind, unified, compassionate. As I have been doing this, small changes happen in life–the Life of Unity infuses all activity.

But it does not happen all at once, and in some ways, it happens so subtly that the change is barely noticeable most days.

Then (and this is what I’ve experienced), you wake up one day, and realize something is different; you’re different. But it happened so slowly, and now feels so natural.

This is what it means, I think, about “in a twinkling of an eye”. It’s not that it happens all at once, that fast; it’s that when the changes are happening in incremental amounts, over a long period of time, it takes some time for the brain to realize it, and “see” it. Then it just seems like it happened so fast.

I’m going to keep thinking about this whole change/transformation thing. I think it’s much bigger than I am currently aware of it being, and I need to open myself to learning about what it’s teaching me. And what does this have to do with worth, anyway?

Life’s Triathlon: Journey of Peace 2017– Day 29

Guiding Thought

The purpose of Life for all beings is to experience happiness, peace, contentment, and safety, Knowing the Oneness and Immortality of the Divine Self. Such Knowledge is beyond speech, beyond thought; It is found in the depths of the heart where communion (co-union) with All is reality. We now bring the unifying force within our hearts to all people and experiences and thus Know ourselves as the happiness, peace, contentment, and safety we Are.

Reflection

We are not here everyday simply reading, contemplating, and writing our thoughts.

A friend of mine who does triathlons would explain it this way: I don’t go to the gym every day to put in my hour and go home, like so many people do. I did that for a time and got bored. What good is that? What is the endgame to that? That was how I decided to do triathlons. Now, my time in the gym serves a greater purpose. Now, with every moment in the gym, I am in training. Each day gets me closer to completing my next triathlon.

Each day of reading, contemplating, and writing, is our training; life is the triathlon.

Our goal is not as concrete as crossing a finish line, but the training brings about tangible results: we act in union with higher principles and bring peace into our homes, our places of work, and all those around us. We are the Peace we seek.

We are creating the future. We are becoming the change we want to see in the world, thus the world is changing.

Every time you make the choice to commune with your heart before taking action…You are the change.

Every time you exhibit kindness, patience, or compassion…You are the change.

Every time you choose a memory of love over a memory of resentment…You are the change.

Every time you take a step toward being your own “better person” (whatever that is for you)…You are the change.

In this race, we can only cross the finish line together. Thank you for training with me; it’s so much more fun than running on a treadmill alone.

Life needs you: Journey of Courage 2017 – Day 27

Guiding Thought

Love is strong! Powerful! We embrace Love and wield it through our awareness of Oneness. Oneness destroys the illusions of the mind, of the past, and of the material world. We move forward courageously with Peace in the Truth of Love and Oneness.

Reflection

Raw sewage is being dumped into the Puget Sound as I write. The world’s oceans are 30% more acidic than they were 250 years ago, threatening life in the oceans. The ozone is (still) being depleted. Half of the world’s rain forests have been destroyed since 1990 (since 1990!). Oil spills happen on average every two months. Wolves and bears are being killed while they hibernate. One third of the world’s population does not have access to clean water.

When I think about these things, I feel like the world is an absolute mess. I cry at how we are hurting our beautiful planet, and all its amazing life. I do what I can: I recycle. I bless my water. I garden organically. I drive as little as possible. I feed the birds. I revere and bless all life. It never feels like enough. How can one person feel like they are doing enough in this state of the world?

But then…

But then, I also see that everyday people are giving and sharing in extraordinary ways, helping each other, bringing love and kindness into the world. For example, the Born This Way Foundation is launching a Kindness Channel, which features young adults reporting on acts of kindness, and HappytheApp is launching an app that will connect people who need a sympathetic ear with a compassionate listener, offering encouragement, support, and affirmation to callers. So many people these days are involved in Yoga, in coaching, in positive thinking. It is all very encouraging. I feel hopeful. I feel like people will not stand idly by and let the world fall apart. People are growing bolder, more outspoken with taking actions to mitigate oppression and hate, the senseless destruction of our natural resources, and the systems that let us get to this point in the first place.

I am thankful to all the people who are mobilizing, who are speaking out, who are out there, consciously changing the world, making it a better place for everyone. It takes courage to do these things; it takes courage not to fall into a pit of despair and hopelessness; it takes courage to speak out against systems and paradigms that have been in place for decades, even centuries; it takes courage to envision a new world, and to word toward it.

To all of you: thank you for your participation and your encouragement, for your care and your motivation. You are helping everyone on the planet with your energy, your love, your work, your small and large acts of kindness, your desire to go further, do more, and be better. We are the change. This is how we change the world. One person, one act ripples over the planet bringing that uplifting energy to all it encounters. Never doubt your power, never doubt your impact. You matter. Life needs you.
