Guiding Thought

Love-as-light streams from my heart to your heart!

We are connected by Love; we are One in Love.

I imagine this stream of love-as-light connecting with everyone in time and space.

I imagine receiving this stream of love-as-light as it returns to me from everyone in time and space. This is enough. We are One.

It was when I got about a third of the way through this picture that I realized how relevant it is to the Guiding Thought. Minus the first line, if you replace “love” with “water” the Guiding Thought makes good sense:

We are connected by Water; we are One in Water.

I imagine this stream of water-as-light connecting with everyone in time and space.

I imagine receiving this stream of water-as-light as it returns to me from everyone in time and space. This is enough. We are One.

Water connects us. There’s water in the air and in our bodies. Water recycles all over the planet, interacting with everyone. They say we breathe particles that were part of Jesus or Buddha; we probably drink water that was too.

There’s so much about how we are “all the same underneath” throughout time and cultures; words spoken by philosophers, writers, even fighters.

Watersheds on mountains are places where water flows naturally, coming together to form streams, then rivers, then the rivers flow to larger bodies of water, which flow to larger bodies of water, until the water reaches the ocean. Along the way, some of the water evaporates, makes clouds, travels by air and wind to fall hundreds or thousands of miles away and starts all over.

In the meantime, we are drinking this water, bathing in it, using it to cook and clean. Water touches all of us, at least in privileged countries.

This is a moment where words don’t really describe this feeling about water, but I understand in a new way how sacred water is, how beautiful the water cycle is, how it really does connect us internally and externally. Water is like fluid light all over the planet.

Guiding Thought

Love is unconditional. I choose to be unconditionally devoted to the love which is unconditionally devoted to me. I embrace life in love as my True nature. Connected with All in Love, I stand boldly in my heart-center, unwavering in my dedication to Unity of Life in Love.

Why am I here? Why am I doing this? I know why. But sometimes the forest gets lost for the trees: the mundane exercises of life become the point of focus and I can lose the bigger picture. Especially when the bigger picture is something incremental over a long period of time and life’s calisthenics keep me hustling.

The big picture is the slow-growth to enlightenment (or transcendence). The plodding process of becoming light, knowing Oneness, being of conscious service to All, in All, for All. That’s a mighty big picture.

This is my plan (the Journeys). That is my goal (transcendence). Am I crazy? Maybe. I know that not too many people make an actual plan to become enlightened, however, there are so many teachings that say not only is it possible, but also that it’s possible now, in this lifetime. So, why not go for it? Other people have done it. This is what Buddha taught; this is what Christ taught.

With Buddha Dharma, there is a path, a way; it is laid out clearly in teachings. There are people who have come before and done it. They figured it out and now other people learn from their examples. Those people have become a model for achieving transcendence. Why don’t more people do it? Why aren’t more people walking around saying, “Enlightenment in this lifetime! That’s what I’m talking about!” That’s a mystery to me. Why aren’t more people trying to figure it out? Sure people are meditating more, becoming healthier, but it seems like it’s about stress-relief, or relaxation, or living longer, not about becoming enlightened. Why not?

Sure, we can do what Buddha did, do what Christ did (on the other hand…who wants to be crucified?), but we are not them—each of us is unique with our own set of distractions, our own lessons, our own learning, and our own gifts. We can do what Christ or Buddha did, but that will only get us so far—we must figure out enlightenment for ourselves, for our own unique set of circumstances. Their lessons were for them—which they used to figure it out. We can follow their paths, but everyone must add their unique seasoning; keep the principles, but adapt them to your understanding, your expression. Find your own path of Love, to Love.

Maybe this sounds crazy. I’m ok with that; of course, I haven’t been challenged too much about it. Who knows, I might buckle under pressure.

What I do know—or at least feel—is there is no reason not to try. There’s no reason I shouldn’t think, “This is the lifetime I do it. This is the lifetime I become enlightened. This is the lifetime I transcend.” Thoughts like this give me a higher purpose. I am happy when I am working to fulfill my goals of enlightenment. I am happy to have enlightenment as the context for my life; somehow things just make more sense. I feel good putting my time, energy, and thoughts into this higher purpose. Do I think other people would benefit having a higher purpose like this? Absolutely. Do I think I have the answers? Maybe I have some; I do not have others. However, I am happy to share anything that might help someone else.

Why all this? For the simple reason that, “Love is unconditional. I choose to be unconditionally devoted to the love which is unconditionally devoted to me.” This is my remembering. This is my purpose, my path, my devotion. I am in it. All in. Unconditionally in it.

“I embrace life in love as my True nature. Connected with All in Love, I stand boldly in my heart-center, unwavering in my dedication to Unity of Life in Love.” I am going boldly forward (yes, yes, I do happen to be a Star Trek fan), and I am dedicating everything to my purpose and my plan. This is not for the weak-hearted…this is no-holds barred. We have what it takes; let’s do it! Enlightenment in this lifetime! That’s what I’m talking about!
