Guiding Thought

Freely release patterns, habits, and thoughts that inhibit Freedom! Allow your thoughts and feelings to transform through remembrance of Freedom through Love! You were born with everything you need to be free in Love. Allow Love to lead you. Trust Love and surrender to its wisdom.

Sharing

Today, during my contemplation of the Guiding Thought, I understood a new dimension of the use of “you” in this round, a new dimension of going deeper, a new dimension of giving and receiving.

Yesterday, I recommitted to going deeper, which for this round means giving love to those who give misery. Before I started today, I felt a huge resistance to this. I had to spend many minutes getting my thoughts right to even begin the contemplation. I went through a mental process of forgiveness and surrender. This process did not lead me to feeling open and loving! But I did get to a point of being willing to feel open and loving. I thought of what I know about God, Jesus Christ, and the Holy Spirit: I do not need to Know or to Do, if I allow them to do the Knowing and the Doing. Being willing today meant stepping aside, not knowing, being totally uncertain and even doubtful, but trusting that they Know and they will do for me what I cannot do for myself, or for someone else. I was then able to begin the contemplation.

I think the way I contemplated changed today, as a result of this. Normally, I read the Guiding Thought sentence by sentence, through to the end, then start at the beginning and do it again, over and over, sometimes pausing and focusing on one word or idea, but following the sentences through from beginning to end. Today that changed. I read the first sentence three times; each time I read it to the person/people who live in misery, and today I added a name at the beginning and end of the sentence, so I was saying the sentence directly to that person: “>Person’s name< Freely release patterns, habits, and thoughts that inhibit Freedom! >person’s name<” I did this for each sentence of the Guiding Thought, reading it three times, adding the person’s name. I also incorporated the visual/imagination of seeing love and light surrounding me and this person. Since I was not feeling it, but since I was willing, and I had stepped aside for God/Christ/Holy Spirit, this was how I brought those things into the practice.

By the time I got to the first reading of the third sentence, my willingness had increased, I felt softer, more open, but still uncertain, doubtful, and “not feeling it”. I had to go through some mental processes about trust to stay on track and keep the uncertainty and doubt at bay, while confirming the love and light surrounding us.

As I continued reading the third sentence, something else happened. I realized I could not offer what I resisted. During the third sentence, I became the “you” just as I was giving to another “you”. Let me explain: During this round of “you”, as you contemplate the Guiding Thought, you can either say it to someone (so that person is the subject, the “you” of the Guiding Thought), or you can imagine some wise person or being saying the Guiding thought to you (and you are the subject, the “you” of the Guiding Thought,). I was both saying it to someone (>person’s name<) and someone was saying it to me. The giving and the receiving were simultaneous.

It’s kind of hard to explain how this affected me. I realized I had to be what I was giving. I had to go beyond merely being willing and actually accept myself as what I wanted to give. And I realized that by accepting it for myself, I was also accepting it for >person’s name<.

That then became something new. My acceptance for myself was also for someone else, so my acceptance for myself became an offering to that person. I then incorporated this idea into the words of the Guiding Thought: “>person’s name< You were born with everything you need to be free in Love >person’s name<. And I was born with everything I need to be free in love, which I offer to you for your benefit and enlightenment, and the benefit and enlightenment of all sentient beings<.

That was how I finished out the Guiding Thought.

At one point as I was finishing, my visualization changed. At the beginning I was visualizing >person’s name< surrounded by light, with God/Christ/Holy Spirit supplying Love.  When it changed, the image of that person’s body all of a sudden shrunk to about the size of a sparrow, and in the space where the body had been there was just light, in the outline of the body. It was at this point when I thought I might be able to actually contribute to the Love which God/Christ/Holy Spirit were supplying.

Today was a day of not knowing, really having not a clue what I was supposed to do, how I was supposed to sincerely give love to someone/people who give misery. I know compassion arises from understanding someone else’s pain and suffering, understanding how miserable they are. Compassion is about wanting to help them out of it. But I understood today I can only help someone out of it to the degree I help myself out of it—I can’t give what I don’t have, and in order to have more, in order to know more of the Truth of the Love I am, I must go deeper into my Self.

Journey of the Heart – Day 40

We are on round 4! These last ten days, the Guiding Thoughts return to using me and I for the pronouns. See how your perspective of your self has changed through using you or we the past twenty days. See if your sense of self is bigger; if you can include a broader vision of “you”.

You may also choose to continue to take a moment before the Journey to listen to this quickly—it is a thought for others, so that the effects of this Journey ripple out!

Wow, today is the last day of this Journey. We are done (for now)! Congratulations on the work you have done toward establishing a relationship with your heart! Your heart appreciates it, as do I.

Sometimes taking in the entire Guiding Thought can be too much. Perhaps you have noticed that in some of my recent reflections, my mind seems to focus on one word, or one part of the Guiding Thought. If this has happened for you, it’s okay, I assure you. You are just deepening your understanding of one aspect of the entire idea.

In a way, this is how these journeys work. Each word intentionally builds to create an idea, the idea expands throughout each sentence of the Guiding Thought, and each Guiding Thought expands the ones before and after it. Your consciousness evolves through each little step—each word—of every journey. In turn, every journey contributes another step to the Ultimate Journey; to your ultimate evolution towards personal aliveness and enlightenment.

The word for me today was “establishes”. What a solid word that is. It makes me think of being deeply rooted, firm, concrete, unmovable, or unshakable. The squares in the picture reflect this. Squares have mass; they are sturdy and substantial, secure and fixed.

Think about what it means to be established in inner peace through Love. Wow!

That’s where my mind was when I was drawing—allowing my feeling-nature to be immersed in an all-encompassing Love, which grounds and protects me.

When I am solidly grounded in Love, how can I do anything but approach the world with Love, compassion, and wisdom?

Day 36 Guiding Thought

I listen to my heart and with my heart.

My heart pays attention to others, listening to their inner voice, their unspoken words.

I care, and attend with love to their deeper, silent needs, asking their heart, “How may I strengthen you and raise your energy?”

I had a bit of a “duh” moment when beginning today’s drawing. I was listening to the Guiding Thought before putting crayon to paper when I realized something: so far on this Journey, I’ve focused this Guiding Thought on other people’s hearts…but not on my own. Despite the first line saying, “I listen to my heart,” I have only been focused on listening with my heart on this day of each round. My heart was telling me it wanted to be heard.

On the one hand, I thought this was a bit ironic, since this whole Journey is about kindling a relationship with, and expressing, my heart. Yet…there it was…my heart, telling me it was feeling overlooked. On the other hand, when I tuned in to this, I really did feel that I was missing something important.

Now, after the past bit of time struggling on this Journey (see yesterday’s post!), today’s feeling and drawing are very helpful and comforting. This drawing is all about the gentle, compassionate enfolding of my own heart; soothing myself, being gentle with myself, having patience with myself, accepting myself.

>Breathing easy now<

Day 34 Guiding Thought

Oh, my beautiful blissful heart!

How can I deepen and expand my relationship with you?

How can I give your love, your wisdom, your compassion more openly and freely?

How can I know you, my heart of love, as myself?

The words that stood out to me while listening to the guiding thought and drawing today were, “How can I know you, my heart of Love, as myself?” This journey has brought out many different things predominantly. Surrender was a big theme at first, another was about giving, and yet a third important theme has been “How can I know you, my heart of Love, as myself?”

Even though there are other words that I could have focused on in this guiding thought, my mind was drawn to thinking about allowing Love, through me, allowing my heart—the heart of wisdom and compassion, to become more predominant in my conscious actions.

This picture shows a Heart of Wisdom surrounded by brilliant, loving light above the figure’s head. I’ve realized when I draw a heart above, like today and on days 25, 24, 21, or 2 (link to these days), it represents something like a unifying heart, or the One Heart that we all share, the central heart that pumps out love for all. I don’t know exactly what to call it. That’s the thing about pictures, there’s a sense that can be related that is hard to describe in words—think about Mona Lisa’s smile. What exactly is it relaying? So the feeling I get is that there is a heart that connects us all, that we can tune into, for healing, love, and learning.

I like to sit and look at the pictures, feeling the meaning, allowing myself to absorb the sense of them. What sense do you get? Do you have any similar senses in your own works?

The spiral inside the heart shows activity. The heart above is very active, always moving, working, doing stuff. Always providing, always generating, always connecting. This spiral comes out specifically to this one figure in this picture, but I get a sense (again) that the spiral reaches out to everyone, all the time.

The activity of the spiral reaching out to the figure is the impetus behind the figure generating energy which resonates with the heart’s own wisdom and compassion. The individual heart receives the energy of the Unifying Heart, and is then able to convert it uniquely through his/her heart and then share it—all the ribbons coming from the front of the figure.

Somehow, this answers the question: How can I know you, my heart of Love, as myself?

Journey of the Heart – Day 20

We are on Round 2 of our Journey! For those of you new to this, there are 10 Guiding Thoughts, which we repeat in four rounds, for a total of 40 days. With this round, instead of hearing the guiding thoughts in the first person, the subject of the Guiding Thought will be “you”. For example, instead of saying, “My heart knows how to love”, we will be saying, “Your heart knows how to love.”  (For further explanation see Journey of the Heart – Day 11)

It’s another dancing day! I kind of saw the image for this at the very beginning—I know, I know, I don’t usually do that, but today I did. At least I had a good feel for what the entire picture was in the beginning. I knew I wanted the Earth: solidly grounding. And I knew I wanted my body to be a heart, solidly grounded in the Earth. I also knew that I wanted the it to be reflected outside of my body, as well as being in/a part of my body.

I feel like this picture is about how the whole world is part of us—humans are just one aspect of the living organism we call Earth, both from planetary and compositional/elemental aspects. Earth is in me, earth is part of me, earth is me—and when I feel that connection, I approach all life with love, compassion, and wisdom…not to mention, reverence.

When I live as a living reflection of the Earth, I dance!  I dance in Her beauty, my own established by Hers, and therefore, expansive and infinite! I become my own bright sun, circling myself, established in Love, firmly rooted in the earth. It’s all there today.
